30 Ways to make your blog better friends with search engines Posted by Gareth on August 3rd, 2008

Wether you are starting a new blog or fortifying your current blog. Having all these 30 tips is a major way to get higher rankings and staying there.

1. The beginning and the basics

Whenever you start a new blog, I love doing these things. They make the building of a blog more fun. If its for the new bloggers who haven’t experienced this before, sometimes it can be a bad experience, but its vital for your blogs success on the internet.

2. SEO friendly URL’s

The first and most basic is that you make your URL’s friendly. This means that it isn’t full of PHP code, search engines hates seeing this “http://www.url.com/jokes=?p/page1.php”, plus it looks ugly.

3. Valid code

Unfortunately search engines don’t look at websites the way we do, they only look at the code of the website, if you really want your site to be good friends with Google or another search engine get it xhtml valid. This won’t budge you up in the ranking’s at all though.

4. Domain name related to the niche

On the search ranks its an extra boost to have extra keywords in your domain name.

5. Keywords in your title

Its great to have your niches keywords in the title of your blog, its useful specially when trying to rank for these keywords.

Free Wordpress themes coming soon Posted by Gareth on August 3rd, 2008

After I discovered that I can design pretty well, I decided that I would make a template for a little bit of fun and ended up being a great success. Instead of my previous idea of selling it for money, I think I’d rather give my readers a template for their own blog.

The theme has a nice blue background and buildings on the footer of the design. I am still unsure of what to call this design, maybe something like “DarkBuild” or “Blue Rising”. Maybe you guys can help out on what I should call the theme, after all you guys will be using the theme, not me!

It is still not coded, but I am going to see if I can code it myself into valid xhtml code and then hopefully sell some links in the footer. Whenever this theme goes live and if it gets some interest I might introduce more free themes, just for you guys.

5 steps to rounded corners on Photoshop Posted by Gareth on August 3rd, 2008

Today I’m gonna teach you guys how to make rounded corners on your photos using Photoshop, you can have any version of Photoshop to make rounded corners, so don’t worry! There are only 5 steps and you will have rounded corners on your desired photo, yes there are many other tutorials like this one also. I’m going to use my brother Andrew as the example, so here he is.

Step 1 of 5

Open your photo that you wish to have rounded corners. The tools you will need for this step is the Rounded Rectangle Tool. Draw a nice rectangle and use the same colour of your background for your rectangle, in this case I will be having a white background. Try and centre it as best you can and it should end up something like this.

Top 10 bloggers under 21 Posted by Gareth on August 2nd, 2008

A while back there was a list made for the top bloggers under 21 years old. Somehow I made it onto some of these lists. It really has got JustGareth a heck of a lot of back links, so thanks a lot to those guys!

The only thing that really bothers me about the whole thing is, I think its kind of copying content. I seen some of them and seems that they have tried to make it look a little unique, kudos to them. But from now on I am going to try and blog more often.

Generating cash on new blogs is hard, or is it? Posted by Gareth on July 8th, 2008

I have recently got some friends into blogging and I am glad they are getting into the whole blogging community because you can update family and friends whilst make decent cash on the mighty internet. Everyone gets lost a stage and the place they get lost is when they make their blog and think how will I generate revenue and get visitors?

Everybody makes it out as if its hard which it really isn’t. Like I stated in the title of this blog post.. “Generating cash on new blogs is hard, or is it?“. I have listed to the right three sites (Bidvertiser, Chitika and Smorty) for you guys, unfortunately Blog Spot are tightening up and don’t allow either Bidvertiser or Chitika.

21 Ways to Work Harder When at Home Posted by Gareth on July 6th, 2008

Loads of webmasters are working from home now and its obvious everyone finds it hard to work harder. I sometimes find it hard to work on something that I set to be done within days, so here is a few tips from me. The last point is the most important.

- Sit in a comfy seat
- Make sure the room is clean
- Your desk should also should be organized
- A cup of coffee, cuppa tea or hot chocolate calms you down
- Open windows for fresh air into your room
- Close MSN, so you won’t have any extractions
- Keep everything in your room switched off apart from your computer
- Make sure you have a full nights sleep
- Don’t have millions of tabs opened on Firefox
- Organization is the key, even on your desktop
- Have targets and try to make them
- Don’t have millions of applications opened on your computer
- Have a shower before working, it refreshes you
- Don’t eat garbage food when working i.e. McDonalds or crisps
- Try not to listen to rock, heavy metal music
- Listen to the absolute jazz on iTunes radio
- On your break go over what you have completed
- If possible make sure no one is in the house
- Try and do things right first go
- Finish what you started before moving on
- Excellence is quality, not quantity!

Yahoo! making it three years in Beta Posted by Gareth on July 5th, 2008

Its now added up to be three years and Yahoo! is still only available to USA. It said when they started the Beta that they would aim to get Yahoo Publisher worldwide. If they were to make it worldwide would they be able to compete with Google AdSense? Personally if they were to bring it to UK I would try it and see if it lives up to all the American’s say how good it is meant to be.

There’s still no sign of a break-through and releasing Yahoo! to the rest of the world, but for now we can’t really say that they are anywhere near releasing if its took over three years.
